7월 1일 Talk about low birth rate in Korea
It was roughly (about) 1.21% in 2014.
This means women have 1.21 babies on average.(평균적으로)
This is much lower than the OECD average of about 1.74.
Korea's birth rate hit a record low at 1.08 in 2005. (~low/ high: 최저치/최고치를 기록하다, 예: The company's stock prick hit a recrd low last year)
It has been rebounding a bit since then, (반등하다)
but it is still very low.
The reason that people are reluctant to have a baby is it cost a lot of money to raise child in Korea. (~ 하기를 주저하다, 예: She is reluctant to get married)
(비용이 많이 든다)
It's also because people're getting married at old age.
If this trend continues, Korea population over all start to drop in the year to come.
(향후 몇년 간; in the year/month/decade to come)
The aging of the population is another problem. (인구 고령화, I think I'm aging 나 늙어가나봐)
