Monologue : Our home for this mission is earth, a third-rate planet. I got a teaching job at a third-rate university. Now we’re looking at a third floor apartment.

Before 1972 when the Marine Mammal Protection Act went into effect, sightings of even a single seal were rare. But today, we spotted hundreds on the uninhabited nature reserve where the aerial video was shot. Biologists say the resurgence of seals here is likely one of the reasons there has also been a rise in the number of sharks in these waters looking for food.

Zoo officials say a tranquilizer would have taken too long and agitated the gorilla more. They are reviewing how the child was able to get into the enclosure. This viral video shows a steel railing with wires below. That railing is followed by four feet of vegetation before a 15-foot drop into a moat where the child fell. Harambe heard splashing and jumped in also.

6.30 Question from a listener : Can you clearly distinguish the difference between fewer and less?   청취자 질문 : 'Fewer'과 'less'의 차이를 명확히 구분해 주세요.

I'm often confused between 'fewer' and 'less'.
fewer와 less가 종종 헷갈려요.

Can you clearly tell me the difference between the two words?
두 단어의 차이를 명확히 알려주세요.

Fewer is used when you can literally count something and less is used all other situations.
fewer는 말그대로 수를 셀 수 있는 곳에 사용되고, less는 다른 모든 상황에서 사용됩니다.

That is why we  classify few as a countable adjective, and less as an uncountable adjective.
그래서 few는 가산형용사고, less는 불가산형용사로 분류하는거죠.
  - classify : 분류하다, 구분하다

Examples of few : Juchi has fewer shirts than Kaylin. Or Alice worked fewer hours than Jim.
fewer의 예 : 주치는 케일린보다 셔츠를 적게 가지고 있다. 또는 앨리스는 짐보다 적게 근무했다.

Examples of less: I have less time to read nowadays  than before.  Or this cup has less water than that one.

However there's an exception to this rule.

Less can be used for singular nouns, especially with time, money, distance and weight.

For example, he works less than 30 hours a week / She makes less than 1000 dollars a month. / The mall is less than 5 miles from here. Or Juchi weighs less than 90 kilograms.
