9.8 Talk about When you got some new furniture. 
새 가구를 얻은 경험을 얘기해봅시다.

Our bed was so old that we decided to replace it.  침대가 오래돼서 바꾸기로 했습니다.

We bought a high-end mattress.   우리는 고급 매트리스를 샀습니다.
  - high-end: 비싼, 고급의

It was a little bit over our budget. 예산을 조금 초과했죠.

Still I'm sure it will pay off in the long run. 길게 봤을땐 도움이 될거라 생각합니다.
  - pay off : 갚다. 청산하다, 성공하다
  - in the long run: 중장기적으로는, 길게 봤을때

With the new bed, it's easier to get a good night's sleep. 
새 침대에서 잠을 푹 잘 수 있습니다.
  -get/have a good night's sleep: 숙면을 취하다
  (ex: Did you get a good night's sleep? 어제 잘 잤니?)

The bed is the second big-ticket item  in our house.
침대는 집에서 두번째로 비싼 아이템이다.
  - big-ticket: 비싼, 고가의

Earlier, we sprang for a leather sofa. 예전에 가죽소파를 샀었어요.
  - spring for ~ : ~ 값을 지불하다 (비싼 제품을 살 때)

It really helped spruce up the living room. 거실을 꾸미는데 정말 도움이 됐죠.
  - spruce up : 단장하다, 모양내다. 산뜻하게 꾸미다

My favorite piece of furniture is the chest of drawers in the dressing room.
내가 가장 좋아하는 가구는 옷방에 있는 서랍장입니다.
  - chest of drawers (=dresser) 서랍장

It creates a lot of storage space.  수납할 공간을 많이 만들어주거든요

There are many things to take into consideration  when choosing furniture.
가구를 고를 때는 고려할게 많습니다.
  - take into consideration : 고려하다, 염두에 두다

The price should be reasonable. 가격이 합리적이어야 하고요.

It shouldn't clash with the furniture you already have. 이미 있는 가구와 어울려야 합니다.
  - clash with ~: ~와 충돌하다, 어울리지 않다

To find the best deals you need to do a lot of homework. 
필요한 가구를 사려면 사전준비를 철저히 해야합니다.
  - do a lot of homework: 사전 준비를 철저히 하다

A: I think this mattress is too expensive. 이 매트리스 너무 비싼거 같아.
B: Look at the big picture.    크게 생각해봐.
A: What do you mean? 무슨 말이야?
B: We are going to use it every nights for many years. 우리 매일밤, 오랫동안 사용할거잖아.



9.7 Talk about when you have problems with banking

I use mobile banking very often, I'm at a loss without it.
모바일 뱅킹을 많이 이용하는데 그게 없으면 어떻게 살지 모르겠습니다.
  - be at a  loss : 어쩔 줄을 모르다.

However it's hard to keep track of all my passwords and pin numbers.  하지만 비밀번호를 기억하는게 어렵습니다.
  - keep track of :  기록하다, 파악하다. 기억하다

Last week I entered the wrong number too many times.
지난 주 비밀번호를 여러번 잘못 입력했습니다.
  -enter (=punch) 입력하다

The bank blocked my account. 은행이 제 계좌를 닫아버렸어요.

I had to go to the bank to confirm my identity. 신원을 확인하기 위해 은행에 직접 가야했습니다.

I also reset my password. 비밀번호를 새로 발급받았죠.
  - reset : 다시 맞추다.

Another time I lost my OTP, I wanted to kick myself.
또 한번은 OTP를 잃어버렸는데 스스로를 한대 치고 싶었습니다.(자책했습니다. )
  - OTP 일회용 비밀생성기 one time password
  - kick oneself : 자책하다.

It was such a foolish mistake. 정말 바보같은 실수였죠.

Again,  I was forced to go to the bank, I got an OTP reissued.
다시 은행에 가서 OTP를 재발급받았습니다.
  - be forced to: 하도록 강요받다
  - reissue: 재발급받다

Last month my online ID certificate was about to expire.
지난번엔 공인인증서가 만료직전이었죠.
  -  online ID certificate : 공인인증서

Thankfully the renewal process was hassle-free.  고맙게도 갱신과정은 귀찮지 않았어요.
  - hassle-free: 성가시지 않은, 편리한

It was easy to do online. 온라인에서 쉽게 했어요.

9. 6 Talk about when you call for a taxi. 택시 부를 때 경험을 이야기해봅시다.

When you are in a rush, it can be tough to catch a taxi.
바쁠 때 택시를 잡는 게 쉽지 않을 수 있다.
  - be in a rush : 서두르다 (no need to rush : 급할거 없어요.)

Nowadays many people use a messaging app to call for a taxi.
 요즘에는 많은 사람들이 채팅앱으로 택시를 부른다.
  - call for a taxi: 택시를 부르다

Because Korea is so tech-savvy, this is now a widespread practice.
한국은 기술력 강국이라, 이런 관행이 널리 퍼져간 이유다.
  - tech-savvy(텍쌔-비) : 기계에 능한
  - practice.: 관행, 관례
  - widespread: 널리퍼진, 광범위한

Users enter their location and destination into the app.
사용자들은 자신의 위치와 목적지를 앱에 넣는다.

They can even select the level of service they want.
원하는 서비스 수준도 정할 수 있다.

Then a nearby driver is dispatched. 그럼 근처에 있는 택시가 온다.
  - dispatch: 파견하다, 보내다

I use the service late at night when taxis are few and far between.
나는 택시가 드문 늦은 밤에 이 서비스를 이용한다.
  - few and far between : 드문, 흔치않는

Usually the wait is less than 10mins. 보통 기다리는데 10분도 안걸린다.

The technology is so cutting edge that you even can see where the taxi is on a map.
기술이 정말 좋아, 택시가 어디에 있는지 지도에서 볼 수도 있다.
  - cutting edge: 최첨단의

Another perk is that the driver already knows your destination.
또 다른 좋은 점은 운전사가 이미 나의 목적지를 안다는 거다.
  - perk:  특전, 보너스, 덤

This saves you trouble explaining how to get there.
이게 어떻게 목적지에 가야는지 설명하는 수고를 덜어준다.
  - save trouble : 손을 덜다, 수고를 덜다

A: You still have called a cab? How long has been? 너 아직도 택시 부르는거? 얼마동안 한거야?
B: Almost an hour. I'm at my wits end. 거의 한시간째야. 돌아버리겠어. (정말 못참겠어.)
A: Why don't you call for a taxi? 택시 부르는게 어때?
B: There are no drivers nearby. 근처에 택시가 없어.



9.5 Talk about a time when you use the designated driver service.
대리운전을 이용해본 경험을 얘기해봅시다.

In Korea, there's very convenient service for drivers who have been drinking.
한국에서는 술을 마신 운전자를 위한 편리한 서비스가 있다.

People can request a  designated driver for a fee. 사람들은 돈 주고 대리운전을 부를 수 있다.
  - designated driver : 지명운전자, 대리운전사
  - for a fee : 돈을 내다

It's a great way to avoid driving under the influence. 음주운전을 예방하는 좋은 방법이다.
 - DUI (driving under the influence) : 음주운전
 
Last night I was a little tipsy.  어젯밤 살짝 취했습니다.
  - tipsy : 알딸딸하다, 술 취하기 전 단계 (=buzzed)

I was unfit to drive. 운전하면 안될거 같았어요.
  - unfit : 부적합하다,

I had to call to a designated driver service, but there was no drivers nearby, so I used the smartphone app instead.
대리운전을 불렀지만 근처에 기사가 없다고 해서, 대신 스마트폰앱을 사용했다.

The app detected my location automatically. 앱에는 내가 어딨는지 자동으로 표시된다.
  - detect  :  추적하다, 감지하다

Then it sent my request to drivers in the vicinity   근방에 있는 대리운전기사에서 송출한다.
  -  in the vicinity(비씨니리) : 근방에 (=around the area)

I could even track the movements of the driver on a map. 나는 지도상에 운전기사의 움직임도 추적할 수 있었다.

The driver saw me home safely. 운전사가 나를 집까지 안전하게 데려다주었다.
  - see someone home : 집까지 바래다주다

I was even able to pay my credit card that was linked to the app.
앱과 연동된 신용카드로 결제도 가능했다.
