2.19 Talk about the various means of transportation people use
     사람들이 이용하는 다양한 교통수단에 대해 이야기해봅시다.

People move around in various ways.
사람들은 다양한 수단으로 이동합니다.
  - move around: 이동하다

Public transportation is very well-organized in Korea.
한국은 대중교통이 잘 정비돼 있습니다.
  - well-organized: 잘 정돈된, 잘 정비된
  (ex: The new system is well-organized. 새 시스템이 체계적입니다.)

Many people take the bus, the subway or the train to get somewhere.
많은 사람들이 버스, 지하철, 기차를 탑니다.

For longer distances people use the bullet train called KTX or travel on a plane
장거리는 KTX라고 하는 초고속열차를 타거나 비행기로 이동합니다.
  -travel on a plane 비행기로 이동하다
  (ex: We decided to travel on a plane to save time. 시간 절약을 위해 비행기로 이동하기로 결정했다)

Of course there are many people who drive their own car as well.
물론 자기 차를 운전하는 사람들도 많습니다.

Traffic gets pretty bad sometimes though.
가끔 교통상황이 나빠지긴 하지만요.
   -traffic :교통상황 (foot traffic: 유동량)

Parking is another problem if you drive  your car somewhere.
차를 운전해 어딘가 갈때 주차가 또 다른 문제입니다.

Personally I take the bus most often.
개인적으로 저는 버스를 가장 자주 탑니다.

They are the cheapest way to get around.
버스는 가장 저렴하게 이동할 수 있는 방법입니다.
  -get around: 돌아다니다 (=move around)
  (ex: It's not easy to get around without a car. 차없이 돌아다니기가 쉽지 않다.)

There is a bus stop right in front of my house.
집 앞에 바로 버스 정거장이 있습니다.
  - stop: 정거장
  (ex: You have go 5 stops. 다섯 정거장 더 가야 해요.)

I also drive my own car from time to time.
저도 가끔 운전합니다.

I got my driver's license a long time ago 
운전면허증은 오래전에 땄습니다.
  - driver's license: 운전면허증 (driver's test: 운전면허 시험)
  (ex: I got my driver's license when I was a freshman in college 대학교 신입생때 운전면허를 땄습니다.)

A: What's the fastest way to get there? 가장 빨리 가는 방법이 뭐야?
B: I think you should take the subway at this hour. 지금 시간엔 지하철을 타야할거야.
A: Don't you think a taxi would be faster? 택시가 더 빠르지 않아?
B: No, traffic is pretty bad right now. 아냐. 지금 꽤 막히거든.



2.18 Talk about the furniture you have at home
     집에 있는 가구들을 이야기해봅시다.

I have a comfy bed in my room.
방에 편한 침대가 있습니다.
  - comfy :편안한 (구어체 = comfortable)

It has a good mattress and it helps me get a good night's sleep.
좋은 매트리스가 있어서 숙면할 수 있습니다.
  -get a good night's sleep: 숙면하다
  (ex: Did you get a good night's sleep? 잘 잤니?)

I like to keep my bed nice and tidy.
  -nice and tidy : 깔끔한, 잘 정돈된
  (ex: I like to keep my room nice and tidy. 방을 깨끗하게 정돈하는 걸 좋아한다. )

I always make my bed in the morning when I wake up.
아침에 일어나면 항상 침대정리를 합니다.
   - make my bed: 침대 정리정돈하다, 잠자리를 정리하다
  (ex: I woke up late and didn't have time to make my bed. 늦게 일어나서 침대정리할 시간이 없었다.
       I usually make my own bed at home. 집에서 항상 내 침대를 정리한다)

And then I have a desk in my room.
또 방에 책상이 있습니다.

I use it when I'm doing something on my computer.
컴퓨터를 할때 사용합니다.

There's a desk lamp on it.
스탠드가 있고요.

I also have some closets and a dresser in my room.
 -closet: 옷장
 -dresser: 서랍장 (drawer: 서랍 하나를 말할 때)

My shirts and coats are on the hangers in the closets.
  - hanger: 옷걸이 (coat hanger: 밖에 설치하게하는 행어)
  (ex: Don't keep you sweaters on the hanger. 스웨터는 옷걸이에 걸지 마세요.)

My socks and underwear are in the dresser.
양말과 속옷은 서랍장에 있습니다.

Plus there's a leather couch in the living room.
그리고 거실에 가죽 소파가 있지요.

I sit on it when I'm watching TV.
앉아서 TV를 봅니다.

I sometimes lie down on it and take a nap.
가끔 누워서 낮잠 자기도 합니다.
  - lie down on~:~에 눕다
  (ex: I like to lie down on the couch and get some zizz. 소파에 누워서 낮잠자는 걸 좋아해요.)

A: Wow, I like that leather couch. 와, 저 가죽 소파 좋다!
B: That's way too expensive. I think it's from Italy. 너무 비싼데. 이탈리아꺼 같아.
A: Oh my goddess. Look at the price tag. 오마이갓. 가격표 좀 봐.
B: Uh-huh, Some furniture can be quite pricey. 응. 어떤 가구들은 정말 비싸지.



2.17 Describe what the weather is like these days
     요즘 날씨가 어떤지 묘사해보세요.

It's late  winter here in Korea right now.
지금 한국은 늦겨울입니다.
  -  late  winter: 늦겨울  ( early winter: 초겨울, mid winter: 한겨울)

It is still freezing cold on some days.
여전히 가끔 매섭게 춥습니다.

The morning lows drop to sub zero temperatures quite often.
아침 최저기온이 자주 영하권으로 떨어집니다.
   -The morning lows : 아침 최저기온 (복수로)
  - sub zero : 영하의 (=below zero, negative)

The afternoon highs sometimes stay in the negative as well.
낮 최고 기온도 가끔 영하권입니다.
  -the afternoon highs : 오후 최고기온(복수로)
  -stay in the negative : 영하권에 머물다
   (ex: The afternoon temperature will stay in the negative. 오후 기온이 영하권에 머물것이다

      It is minus two degree Celsius. 지금 영하 2도다.

      It's zero degree Celsius. 0도다. )

During this time of year we get a lot of snow.
이맘때쯤 눈이 많이 옵니다.

In fact it snowed quite a lot last week.
사실 지난주에 눈이 꽤 많이 왔습니다.

And some streets are still quite slippery.
여전히 일부 거리는 미끄럽습니다.

The weather forecast says it's going to be cold this week.
날씨예보가 이번주는 추울거라고 합니다.

It will get warmer next week.
다음주는 날씨가 좀 풀린다고 합니다.

I get cold pretty easily and Winter is not my favorite season.
제가 추위를 많이 타서, 겨울을 가장 좋아하진 않습니다.

I hope Spring come soon.
봄이 빨리 왔으면 좋겠습니다.

2.16 Talk about a memorable incident that happened while you are taking out the recycling  재활용품을 버리면서 기억에 남은 일을 얘기해봅시다.

I gather plastics, cans, paper and glass at home separately.
집에서 플라스틱, 캔, 종이류, 유리를 따로 모읍니다.
  - recycle : 재활용하다
  - the recycling : 재활용품 (= recyclable material)

 I take them out to a designated area for the recycling which is next to the dumpster 
for regular garbage.
 재활용품을 일반쓰레기 수거통 옆에 있는 지정된 장소로 가져갑니다.
  - designated area 지정된 장소
   (ex: designated area for smoking:흡연구역 designated area for paring : 주차구역
        Most apartment have a designated area for the recycling. 아파트 대부분이 지정된 재활용품 장소가 있습니다.)
  - dumpster 쓰레기 수거통

The last time I took out the recycling was two days ago.
재활용품을 마지막으로 버린 건 이틀전이었습니다.
  - The last time +주어 +동사과거형 : 내가 마지막으로 한게 ~ 다.
  - take out : 버리다
  (ex: I didn't have time to take out the recycling. 재활용품을 버릴 시간이 없었다.)

I was throwing each item into different bags.
각각 다른 가방에 던져넣고 있었습니다.

But as I was doing so, some leftover milk from a carton leaked out
그렇게 하고 있는데, 우유팩에서 남은 우유가 새어나왔습니다.
  - carton(칼-은): 우유곽 (a milk carton : 우유 한 팩)
  - leaked out: 새어나오다
   (ex: some gas leak out the pipe. 가스관에서 가스가 샌다
        I didn't know water leaked out of the bottle. 물병에서 물이 새는지 몰랐다)

My clothes got wet and the milk smelled pretty bad.
옷이 젖고 우유 냄새가 꽤 지독했습니다.
  - smell pretty bad: 냄새가 안좋다
  (ex: The bread went bad and it smelled pretty bad.  빵이 상해서 냄새가 안 좋았다.)

I came back in and washed my hands.
집으로 돌아와 손을 씻었습니다.

I also had to change into new clothes.
또 새 옷으로 갈아입어야 했습니다.
  -change : 옷을 갈아입다
  (ex: Let me change into some comfortable clothe : 편안한 옷으로 갈아입을게.)

Ever since that incident I make sure to be careful when I take out the recycling.
그 일 이후, 재활용품을 버릴 때는 조심하려고 합니다.

A: how often do you take out the garbage? 얼마나 자주 쓰레기 내다 버리니?
B: Almost every week. I take out the garbage on my way out. 거의 매주마다. 나가는 길에 쓰레기를 버려.
(on my way in 들어오는 길, on my way home 집에 오는 길, on my way to work 회사가는길)
A: I do that too actually. 실은 나도 그래.
B: Yeah, I can save time that way. 그럼 시간을 절약할 수 있지.



2.15 Talk about a time when you hurt your back 
      허리를 다친 경험을 얘기해봅시다

I remember hurting my back a few year ago.
수 년 전에 허리를 다친 적이 있습니다.

I was lifting something heavy and my back snapped.
무거운 걸 들다가 허리를 삐끗했습니다.
   -snap :  (허리, 어깨 등이)삐끗하다 (=pop)
  (ex: I snapped my back at the gym today. 오늘 헬스장에서 허리 삐끗했다.)

I just collapsed on the spot.
그 자리에서 털썩 주저앉았습니다.

I couldn't move at all because my back hurt so much.
너무 아파서 전혀 움직일 수가 없었습니다.

It was so painful that I nearly cried.
너무 아파서 눈물이 핑 돌았습니다.

I went to the doctor right away.
당장 병원에 갔습니다.
  -go to the doctor : 동네 병원을 갈때
  -go to the hospital : 대형 병원을 갈때

I got an x-ray taken then doctor told me that I would need some further tests.
x-ray 촬영을 하고 나서 의사가 추가 검사가 필요할거라고 얘기했습니다.

I got medicine prescribed and got physical therapy that day.
약처방을 받고, 물리치료를 받았습니다.
  -get physical therapy : 물리치료 받다
  -that day: 그날 당시

The following day I got an MRI scan on my back.
그 다음날 허리쪽에 MRI 를 찍었습니다.
   -get an MRI scan : MRI를 찍다
  (ex: It costs a lot of money to get an MRI scan. MRI 찍는데 돈이 많이 듭니다.
       I had to get an MRI scan of my head. 머리에 MRI를 찍어야 했습니다)

When the results came out a week later, the doctor told me it wasn't anything too serious.
일주일 뒤에 결과가 나왔는데, 의사는 별로 심각할게 없다고 얘기했습니다.
  - results: 결과 (항상 복수로)

It was a relieve that I didn't have to get surgery.
수슬 받지 않아도 되어서 다행이었습니다.
  -It is a relieve : 다행이다 ( = I'm relieved)
    (ex: It is a relive that he is making a quick recovery. 그가 빨리 낫고 있다니 다행이다)

I was told to workout to strengthen my back muscles.
허리쪽 근육을 강화하기 위해 운동하라는 말을 들었습니다.
  -be told:~듣다
  - strengthen one's back muscles : 허리 근육을 강화하다
  (ex: I decided to workout every day to strengthen my back muscles 허리 근육을 강화하기 위해 매일 운동하기로 결심했다.
      I started yoga to strengthen my back muscles 허리근력을 키우려고 요가를 시작했다)

B: What's wrong? 왜 그래?
A:  I think my shoulder popped. 나 어깨가 빠진거 같애.
B: Oh, no. Does it hurt? 으... 아파?
