2.26. Talk about when you took swimming classes.
        수영강습을 받았던 때를 이야기해봅시다.

There's a large fitness center close to where I live.
제가 사는 곳 근처에 큰 스포츠센터가 있습니다.

There's a indoor swimming pool there.
거기 실내수영장이 있습니다.

I used to take swimming lessons last year.
작년에 거기서 수영강습을 받았습니다.
  - take swimming lessons: 수영강습받다
     (*lesson : 기술등을 배우는 수업, class 는 가서 참여해서 듣는 수업)
    (ex: Have you ever taken swimming lessons? 수영강습 받아본 적 있어요?)

I wanted to loose some weight and become a better swimmer.
몸무게를 줄이고 싶었고, 수영을 더 잘하고 싶었습니다.

I wanted to learn the backstroke properly.
배영을 제대로 배우고 싶었습니다.
 (*the free style 자유형, the breaststroke 평영, the backstroke 배영, the butterfly 접영)

Swimming really helped me slim down because I was able to get plenty of exercise.
 충분히 운동을 할 수 있어서 살빼는데 수영이 큰 도움이 되었습니다
  -slim down: 살빼다, 날씬해지다 (slim=slender, thin)
  (ex: I really feel the need to slim down. 나 진짜 살빼야 겠어.
        Slimming down is not easy at all 살빼는 건 쉽지 않아.
  -get plenty of exercise : 운동이 충분히 되다
  (ex: I think you should get plenty of exercise on weekends. 너 주말에 운동을 충분히 해야할거 같아)

It also helped me become more flexible.
또한 유연하게 하는데 도움이 되었습니다)

My shoulders didn't hurt as much after I started to swim.
수영을 시작하고 어깨가 덜 아팠습니다.

I don't swim regularly now, But I go whenever I have the chance.
지금은 정기적으로 수영하지 않지만, 기회가 있을 때 마다 합니다.

It really feels refreshing after a good swim.
수영을 제대로 하고 난뒤 기분이 아주 상쾌합니다.

When my friends want to work out, I always recommend that they try swimming
친구들이 운동하고 싶어하면, 언제나 수영하라고 권합니다.

2.25  Talk about the last time you went for a hike.

There's a small mountain not far from my house.
집에서 멀지 않는 곳에 작은 산이 있습니다.

I go for a hike there with my husband quite often.
거기 남편이랑 등산하러 자주 갑니다.
  -go for a hike: 등산가다 (=go hiking)
  (ex: Do you like to go for a hike? 등산 좋아하나요?)

The last time we went was two weeks ago.
마지막으로 보러 간게 2주전이었습니다.

There are several hiking trails we can pick from.
선택할 수 있는 등산로가 여러개 있습니다.

We hiked up the main trail that time.
주 등산로로 올라갔습니다.
  -hike up : 산을 올라가다 (<-> hike down)
  (ex: We hiked up the stairs side by side with all our bags : 우리는 가방을 모두 짊어지고 나란히 계단을 올라갔다)

We headed off early in the morning and reached the mountaintop an hour later.
아침 일찍 출발해서 한시간 뒤에 꼭대기에 도착했습니다.
  - head off : 출발하다 (=head out)
  (Ex: I want to head off earlier than that. 그것보단 빨리 가고 싶다
       Where are you heading off to? 어디로 가는 길이니?
       Honey, I'm heading off to work. 여보, 나 이제 출근해. )

The view from the peak was great as always.
정상에서 보는 전망은 언제나 그렇듯 끝내줬습니다.

We sat on a bench for a while to enjoy the breeze.
잠시 의자에 앉아서 산들바람을 만끽했습니다.
  - breeze : 산들바람, 미풍

And then we started to make our way down again.
그리고 다시 내려왔습니다.
  -make one's way up / down/ out: 올라가다/내려오다/ 밖응로 나가다
 (ex: Let's make our way down now. 지금 내려갑시다.
      It's a time to make our way down to our camping site. 캠핑장으로 내려갈 시간이다)

The weather was perfect for a hike that day.
그날 등산하기에 딱 좋은 날씨였습니다.

It felt really good to breathe in the fresh air.
신선한 공기를 들이마시니 정말 좋았습니다.
  - breathe in the fresh air 신선한 공기를 마시다
 (ex: I like to breathe in the fresh air when I go to the mountains. 산에 가서 신선한 공기를 마시는게 좋다
      I took a walk in the morning to breathe in the fresh air. 신선한 공기를 마시려고 아침 산책을 했다.)

B: You need a good pair of hiking shoes. 등산화 있으면 좋아.
A: I don't have hiking shoes though. 나 등산화 없는데.
B: I have an extra pair. Maybe you can wear mine. 나한테 여분이 있어. 내꺼 신어.



2. 24 Call a restaurant and make a reservation for a table.
       식당에 전화해서 자리를 예약합니다.

Hi, there. I'm calling to make a reservation at your restaurant.
안녕하세요. 예약하려고 전화했습니다.

My family is planning to have dinner  there tomorrow evening at 7.
가족과 내일 저녁 7시에 거기에서 저녁먹을 예정입니다.
  - be planning to have dinner: 저녁 먹을 예정이다

We'd like a table for four people.
4명 자리를 원합니다.
  -would like a table for 숫자: 00명 자리를 원하다
  (ex: I'd like a table for 2 by the window/ on the patio. 창가쪽/테라스에 2명 자리 원해요        I'd like a table for the entire group. 전체인원이 앉을 수 있는 자리를 원합니다)

Can you tell me if there's a table available?
이용할 수 있는 자리가 있는지 알려주기셌습니까?

술도 판매하나요?

  (ex: I don't think they serve beer there. 거기 맥주는 안파는 거 같은데
      Ask if they serve alcohol during lunch time. 점심시간에 술을 파는지 물어봐.)

If so, what kinds of drinks do you have on the menu?
그렇다면 메뉴에 어떤 음료가 있나요?

Also do you have valet service at the door? (=Do you have valet?)
발렛 주차도 있나요?

  - make a reservation: 예약하다

Do you have a vacancy for this coming weekend?
이번 주말에 빈 방 있나요?
  - vacancy : 빈 객실. (<->no vacancy: 만실)
  (ex: Do you have any vacancies? 빈방 있나요? (*복수도 가능)
      What if they don't have a vacancy? 빈방 없으면 어쩌지?)

2. 22 Describe a person you had a crush on in the past 
       과거에 좋아했던 사람을 묘사해봅시다.

I remember having a crush on a girl when I was in college.
대학교때 어떤 소녀를 좋아했습니다.
  - have a crush on somebody: ~를 좋아하다 (crush : 사랑)
 (ex: Have you ever had a crush on anyone? 누군가를 좋아해본 경험이 있나요?
      I didn't know you had a crush on her. 네가 그녈 그렇게 좋아하는지 몰랐어.)

She and I were members of the same club.
그녀와 나는 같은 동아리였습니다.

She had a very bright personality and was very witty.
그녀는 매우 밝고 재치있었습니다.
 - bright : 밝다
 - witty: 재치가 있다 (위리)
  (ex: I like people who have a bright personality. 나는 성격이 밝은 사람들을 좋아한다)

She looked very cute and was my ideal type.
아주 귀엽게 생겼는데 제 이상형이었습니다.

I was a little shy back then and I couldn't ask her out.
그 당시 수줍음을 타는 성격이었고, 그녀에게 사귀자고 못했습니다.

Then one day I heard that she was going out with someone that I knew.
그러던 어느날 내가 아는 누군가와 사귄다는 이야기를 들었습니다.

I hated myself for not asking her out.
그녀에게 사귀자고 하지 않은 내 자신이 싫었습니다.

I spent many days in misery.
괴로워하며 며칠을 보냈습니다.

Looking back I regret that I never had the courage to tell her that I like her.
되돌아보니, 그녀에게 좋아했다고 말할 용기가 없었던 게 후회됩니다.
