[Bank of Korea 한국은행]
Bank of Korea, BOK is Korea's central bank.
한국중앙은행을 한국은행, BOK라고 부릅니다.
The BOK's main responsibility is to come up with monetary policies.
한국은행의 주요 역할은 통화정책을 수립하는 것입니다.
- come up with : 생산하다, 제시하다 (=formulate)
- monetary (마너터뤼) policy: 통화정책
First it sets the benchmark interest rate periodically.
먼저 기준금리를 조정합니다.
- benchmark interest rate : 기준금리
It pushes up the interest rate to curb inflation.
물가상승을 억제하기 위해 금리를 올립니다.
- curb inflation : 물가상승을 억제하다
This helps bring about price stability.
이를 통해 물가안정을 이룹니다.

- price stability: 물가안정
On the other hand it lowers the interest rate to boost the economy.
반대로 경기를 부양하기 위해 금리를 낮추기도 합니다.

The central bank's key interest rate has a major ripple effect in the financial sector.
중앙은행의 기준금리는 경제분야에 파장을 일으킵니다.

The BOK also prints and distributes currency.

Plus it manages the nations's foreign exchange reserves.
