10. 30 Talk about Amateur Baseball Leagues in Korea

With the popularity of baseball in Korea, There are more and more people who actually play baseball as well. 베이스볼이 인기를 끌면서

There are several amateur baseball leagues and hundreds of teams.

Teams have their own team names and logos.

They have their uniforms, gloves, bats and other baseball equipment.

These amateur players come form all walks of life.

Most of the games they play are recreational, but some players are pretty serious about their games.                    재미삼아 하다

I used to be on a team myself several years ago.

Once the season kicked off, we would have games every other weekend.

I developed the strong bond with my team mates and we still keep in touch.

10. 29 Talk about When you went to a baseball game

I'm a pretty big fan of baseball.

I go to baseball games whenever I have the chance.

The last time I went was a few weeks ago.

It was big game between two big rival team the Doosan bears and  the LG Twins.
중요경기였다

Both teams represent Seoul and have a long rivalry going on.

As always the game got heated up.

There were cheerleaders on each team who led the cheering.

The fans of both teams use stick balloons to root for their teams.

The bears led the game up until the 8th inning.

But the twins turned the game around  in the last inning and won 7 to 5.

It was one of the most exciting games I've ever watched in my life.

10. 28 Talk about  the Popularity of baseball in Korea

It seems that many more people are into baseball in Korea these days.

Especially with the post season going on, the popularity of baseball is at its peak.

Ticket sales for pro-baseball hit a record high at 7.1 million in 2012.

A new team called 'KT wiz' joined the league recently.

With the addition of new team attendance is expected to go even higher than that of previous years.

10. 27 Talk about Paper cups we use

We use so many paper cups in our lives.

Tons of people get their drinks to go at coffee places.

When they do that, they almost always use paper cups.

However disposable cups are not eco-friendly

Thousands of thousands of trees are cut every year just to make these cups.

That's why we should try to use less of them.

A good way to use less paper cups is to use tumbler or thermos when you get drink.

Coffee places offer discounts for customers who bring in  their own cups like this.

We see many public campaigns to encourage people to use less paper cups.

10. 26 Talk about Dried squid  Koreans like to eat

Koreans are huge fans of dried squid.

There are just like beef jerky for westerners.

Roasted dried squid is one of the most typical side dishes Koreans have with beer.

They go very well with peanuts

Dried squid can be a bit tough.

So some people prefer to have half dried squid which is a bit softer.

There are various flavors of dried squid.

The butter-flavored ones are one of the most popular kinds.

You can easily see people having dried squid as snacks at movie theaters.

Plus there is a whole array of dried squid products at convenient stores.

Dried squid is very chewy. : 마른오징어는 쫄깃쫄깃 씹히는 맛이 있어.


I feel the munchies : 입이 심심하다.
I think I have the munchies: 좀 출출하네.

10. 23 Talk about your experience of working out at the gym

I used to work out a lot a long time ago.
   이렇게 띄어쓰면 뒤에 강세 '월 까웃'!
  
However I stopped doing that at some point.
                                          어느 시점에서

Naturally I started to gain weight.

Then one day I decided to work out again.

I signed up at the gym near my house.

These days I hit the gym three times a week on average.
               =go the gym.
(*hit: (slang) hit the shower hit the  books)

Its has become a part of my daily routine.

When I go to the gym I do some cardio for about half an hour.

I burn about 500 calories on the treadmill.

After that I lift some weights for about an hour.

I also do some sit ups to work on my abs.

It feels really good after a good work out.

10.22 Do you like riding bikes?

Riding bikes is all the rage in Korea these days
         (복수로)    대세다/ 인기폭발이다

Many more people are riding their bikes.

It's a great way to get some exercise.
                 운동하기에 좋은 방법이다.
(*I walk to school to get some exercise; 운동하려고 학교에 걸어간다)

Plus it's lot of fun to ride with other people.

I have actually join the biking club.

We get together every weekend to ride together.

We most often take our bikes out to the riverside park along the Han river.

When I ride bikes I always put on protective gear.

I put on a helmet, knee pads and elbow pads.

My bike is just an ordinary bike.

It's not that pricey but some of my friends own bikes that are really expensive.

10.21 Talk about the computer mouse you use.

I have three computer mouses.

One is ordinary mouse.

It's connected to my desktop at home.

It's quite bulky but I like the grip.
      부피가 크고 무게도 나간다.

It fits right in my hand.
   손에 딱 맞다 (easy to hold)

Another mouse I have is typical wireless mouse.

I have to plug the piece into the USB port.

The mouse actually folds in half.

It's good when I have to carry it around.

The other mouse I have is blue tooth mouse.

I don't have to plug in anything.

I just have to pair it with my laptop.

It's really cool.

I think wireless mouses are very convenient, because you don't need any wires.

10. 20 Talk about your parents

I used to live with my parents before I got married.

I moved out right after getting married.

My parents live close by.
                가까이 산다

I see them quite often actually at least twice a month on average.

We call or message each other back and forth quite often.

There are very family oriented and we have a lot of family gatherings.

They love to see their grand children.

They used to come and give us a hand with our children when they were babies.

My mom and dad are also quite active despite their age.

They like to go hiking and play badminton on a regular basis.

I feel grateful to have my parents.

10.19 Talk about your siblings

I'm the oldest among my siblings.
나는 첫째다. (<->the youngest)

I have a younger brother and a younger sister.

I'm three years apart with my brother.
남동생과 3살차이다.
(=My brother and I are 3 years apart)
(*나이 차가 난다고 할 때 Apart를 쓸 수 있다)

My sister and I have quite an age gap.
                            나이 차가 꽤 난다

She is 8 years younger than I am.

I'm very close with my young(younger) sister.

She used to rely on me a lot when she was growing up.
        =depend on someone, 의지하다, 의존하다

She came to me first when she had problems.

We have always had a good chemistry. (여기서 a 빼도 됨)
(*have a good chemistry:  잘 맞다. 잘 통하다 <-> we have no chemistry)

On the other hand My bother and I have had some issues.

We're very different in many ways.

There are times when we have different views about family issues.

But overall, we get along okay.

10. 16 Talk about Zoo you have been to

I used to love going to the Zoo when I was little(/young)
                                                    어렸을 때
I was delighted to see the animals.
  신나는, 기뻐서 뛰고 싶은 정도

My favorite animals were elephants, giraffes and monkeys.

I remember feeding them food with my own hand.

I also remember going to a safari.

There were lions, tigers and even bears in the safari.

It was so cool to see those wild animals so closely.

I also remember watching dolphin shows at the zoo.

My parents bought me souvenirs.

They bought me fancy hair bands and stuffed animals.
                    = colorful, unusual, special, expensive

We also had ice cream, snacks and cotton candy at the zoo.

Overall I have a lot of  pleasant memories of going to the zoo when I was kid.

10.15 Talk about flies

Flies can be a nuisance.
              성가신 존재, 골치거리

There are many flies near the dumpster.

You see them a lot especially in the summer.

You definitely don't want them in the house.

They carry around germs  and can land on your food.

They also make annoying sound flying around.
(*around: 여기저기 왔다갔다, 주변을 이동하는 모습에 쓰는 전치사)

You can use a fly swatter to catch them.
                    파리채
But that can be hard because they are pretty fast.

Sometimes flies can lay eggs in the house and multiply in numbers.

That' the worst case scenario.

The best way to keep flies out is to keep the house clean.

That way you won't attract them  into the house in the first place.

10.14 Talk about cicadas in Korea

There are many cicadas in Korea.
                     매미
They make a lot of noise in the summer.

They can be a bit annoying.
                 신경쓰이다, 짜증나다. =gets on your nerve.

They are around all summer and then into early fall.
                    여름내도록 있다가 초가을까지
(*into 이동의 느낌을 갖는 전치사)

Sometimes we can hear them all day as they cry at night as well.

They can be distracting as the noise they make so loud.

Plus they always make noises in groups
                            단체로/집단으로 운다

When one  start to cry, all the others start to cry together.

They not only live in the countryside but also in the city as well.

Wherever there are trees, chances are you will find them.

They are eventually die off as the weather gets colder in late fall.
                     죽어 없어지다. 멸종하다.
(*die off/ die out = distinct, 멸종하다, 자취를 감추다.

Mosquitoes die off when it gets colder. :추워지면서 모기가 사라졌다.
They make a lot of noise all night long. : 그들은 밤새 시끄럽게 굴었다.
His jokes were a bit annoying. : 그의 농담에 좀 짜증났다.
Just ignore what he said. : 그가 한 말 흘려버려


10. 13 talk about when there was a short circuit in your house

I remember when there was a short circuit in my house.
                                  누전되다  (*정전: power outrage)

The power kept shutting down. 
     전원            아예 차단하다

I checked the fuse box and turned it back on,

But the power kept shutting down again.

I had to call the management office.

A Technician came to see what was wrong.

We unplugged the bigger appliances and turned the power back on to see what the problem was.

It turned out  that there was something wrong with the wiring  in the house.
(=find out eventually, 발견하다, 밝혀지다)              회선/배선

The fridge also seems to have some problems.

In the end, the technician took care of the problem and we got power back on.

10. 12 Talk about Getting off work

I normally get off work around 6 or 7.
(*Get off (work) : 퇴근하다)

There are times when I get off work late.

I have to work after hours from time to time.

It commonly happens especially at the end of every month, when we're wrapping things up for the month.
(*wrap up ~ : ~를 마무리하다)

Traffic gets pretty bad when I get off work.
교통체증이 꽤 심하다

It can take forever when I get stuck in traffic.
     시간이 많이 걸리다

So I normally take the subway to avoid rush hour traffic

We do have staff dinners off and on.

Staff dinners end late at night at times.

The subway or the bus stops running.

In that case I have no choice but to cab it home.

10. 9 what are some of your Morning routines

I'm definitely a morning person.

I go to sleep around midnight.

I wake up around 6  in the morning and start to get ready for the day.

I first turn on the TV and make some coffee.

I then brush my teeth and take shower.

After that I dry my hair and put on my make-up.

That takes up the longest portion of my time in the morning.

I can get it done pretty fast that times,

but it takes forever when I'm having a bad hair day.

After putting on my clothes, I leave my house a little after 7.

I get on the subway and head to work

I get to my office around 8:30

10. 8 Talk about the picture your took for your wedding.

I remember taking a lot of pictures for my wedding.

First we signed with a photo studio.

We went there a month before the wedding for a wedding album shoot.

The photographer took many pictures of us with wedding gowns on.

We selected several pictures that were displayed  later on at the wedding.

At the actual wedding ceremony, we took many group pictures with the guests.

We also took individual snap shots here and there.

We added the pictures form our honeymoon and created an album.

We still go though the album from time to time.
 (*go though=look at, 훑어보다)

The pictures help us reminisce on the wedding day.

10. 7 Talk about what you have to do to prepare for your wedding

I remember having to do so many things for our wedding.

My husband and I got help from a wedding planner.

She helped us make arrangements for the wedding.

We first had to book a wedding hall.

We looked several places and picked one that we liked.

And then we went to several boutiques to try on our wedding gowns.

We also had a pictures taken for the wedding album.

After that we sent out the wedding invitations.

Last of all, we had to make plans for the honeymoon.

10. 6 Talk about Black boxes for cars

Many Korean drivers install black boxes on their dashboards these days.
                            블랙박스를 설치하다           계기판

These devices capture everything when people are driving
                  포착하다

They shoot footage even when the car is parked.
        영상을 촬영하다
 (shoot=record, tape 찍다, 촬영하다)

People can download footage from the black boxes later on.
                                                           나중에(불특정시점을 가리킬때)

Drivers can find out what is exactly happened to their cars  looking at the footage.
                              (exactly=precisely. 정확하게)

Black boxes are helpful in solving accidents.

It's easy to spot video clips shot by these devices on the internet..

We also see this footage is on the news from time to time.

Black boxes for cars have become pretty common in Korea.

Their prices have gone down a lot  as well.

10. 5. Talk about Security cameras around us

There're so many security cameras all around these days.

There are in elevators, park lots, stores, subway stations and on the streets.

They are practically everywhere.

Surveillance camera serve on importance purpose.

They help keep an eye on traffic flows and what is going on at certain locations.

Plus they help to prevent crime,  they can also help solve crime.

The camera footage is sometimes very important in solving a case.

However, because there are so many camera, some people feel as if their privacy is being violated.                                                       ~처럼 느끼다

But there is always a price to pay to be safe.
